About the Preeti to Unicode Converter

Preeti is the most widely used legacy Nepali font, found across decades of Nepal government documents, old office files, and early Nepali desktop publishing. Text typed in Preeti isn't actually stored as Devanagari characters — it's stored as ordinary Latin letters remapped to Devanagari-shaped glyphs, which only display correctly if the Preeti font is installed and applied. This tool converts that text into standard Unicode Devanagari, so it displays correctly everywhere, is searchable, and can be copy-pasted without breaking.

How the conversion works

This isn't a phonetic guess — it's a direct, deterministic decode using the exact character map and glyph-reordering rules the Preeti font was built on (including the tricky bit where certain vowel signs are typed before the consonant they visually attach after).
